Acupuncture FAQs

  1. What does acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese medicine that is traditionally used to treat chronic pain and muscle tension. In addition to reducing anxiety and stress, acupuncture can be used to treat:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • sinusitis
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Chronic migraines
  • Infertility
  1. Does acupuncture hurt?

Because acupuncture needles are so thin, most of our patients find that acupuncture treatments are painless or that any discomfort they feel is minimal. Following your acupuncture treatments, it is normal to experience soreness and tenderness in your treated areas. These aches typically resolve on their own within a day or two of treatment.

  1. Does acupuncture work immediately?

Acupuncture is a very personalized and tailored treatment. This individuality also extends to the results one may receive from acupuncture treatments. While some patients may feel the work of their acupuncture throughout and immediately following their treatment, other patients may need to receive a few treatment sessions before feeling its full benefits.

  1. How far do acupuncture needles go in?

The depth in which acupuncture needles are placed depends on your treatment areas and the types of ailments you desire to treat. Each acupuncture needle may be placed fractions of an inch into the skin up to a couple of inches. It’s best to consult with your acupuncturist prior to your treatment session to learn the full scope of your acupuncture treatment.

  1. Does insurance cover Acupuncture?

We do not accept insurance at Art of Balance Wellness Spa. However, upon request, we can provide a documented receipt (superbill) for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
